About CompData

CompData is the most experienced State of California approved vendor of the application software necessary to subscribe to the EDEX system. CompData provides everything necessary to get you on-line with the WCAB quickly and easily. All you need is a PC running Windows and an Internet connection or a modem. All data received from the WCAB database is transmitted directly to your PC system on your desk.

What CompData Can Do For You

Query The WCAB Database By SSN

By entering a SSN you will receive all case details on all current, past or even future WCAB cases in the WCAB database.

Complete WCAB Case Information

An inquiry will give you all WCAB cases associated with the SSN entered. For each case number, you will receive: Dates of Injury, WCAB Venue, Body Parts Injured, Type of Injury, Date of Birth, Gender, Party List (including lien claimants), Five Most Recent Case Events and the Current WCAB Status of each case.

Receive Hearing Notices Electronically

You can automatically receive all Hearing Notices directly from the DWC EDEX system the same evening as they are entered in the WCAB database. Never "forget" to calendar a case again!

Receive All WCAB Case Activity Electronically

Any significant case activity tracked by the WCAB is transmitted directly to your computer the same day it occurs (DOR filed, C&R approved, etc.). Eliminate the time consuming and costly practice of attempting to find out what action the WCAB is taking (or not taking) on your cases.

Receive Electronic Notice of Any New Case Opening

You may elect to receive automatic electronic notification if a new WCAB case opens anywhere in California for an applicant. The same day a new case opens, you will receive all new case details.

Avoid Frustrating and Costly Calls To The WCAB

Receiving all case information electronically avoids the necessity of most calls to the local WCAB for case status information. You will already have the same information in your computer as the WCAB (including the official party list). By saving the time involved in these calls, you can accomplish more productive tasks while saving money. These cost savings alone will pay for CompData before you know it.

File Liens Electronically

The DWC no longer files liens electronically, but we can help them speed up their process by auto-populating the EAMS OCR forms with EDEX data.

Print Proofs of Service and Mailing Labels

CompData automatically prints a Proof of Service and mailing labels for all parties with no typing involved. Eliminating the time consuming tasks of typing addresses and preparing Proofs of Service is another cost saving feature of CompData.

No Data Entry Required

All you ever have to enter is the SSN of an applicant or a WCAB case number. All case information and the official party list (including lien claimants if desired) will be automatically received from the WCAB by your computer.

Powerful Case Management Tool

CompData provides powerful features that allow you to manage the case information in ways never before possible. Robust report generation gives total flexibility in creating reports. How long would it take you to determine which of your files are assigned to a particular WCAB office or involve a specific party or are assigned to a given judge or involve a particular body part? With CompData, these types of reports are easily created in just seconds!

Import From Your Existing Database

If you already have a database system containing applicant names and SSNs, you may want to consider our Mass Upload option. The Mass Upload Program allows you to import your existing data directly into CompData. This eliminates the necessity of manually entering SSNs to query the WCAB database

Receive Electronic Notification of All Case Activity

Resident Inquiry

Filing an EDEX Resident Inquiry will provide automatic electronic notification of all significant case activity the same day it is recorded by the WCAB. A resident inquiry will also provide electronic notification of all hearings scheduled the same day they are placed on calendar by the WCAB. A Resident Inquiry is placed by specific WCAB case number.

The WCAB records specific significant case activity as is occurs in its database system. At this time there are 56 defined case events recorded by the WCAB. The occurrence and recording of any of these specific events will result in an electronic notification if a Resident Inquiry has been filed.

Pre-Application Inquiry

A Pre-Application Inquiry is filed by SSN only. Any new case opening (Application for Adjudication) at any WCAB office in California will generate an electronic notification to the subscriber having filed a Pre-Application Inquiry. This notification will include all case details normally provided by a standard inquiry. The information provided will include:

- All WCAB case numbers
- WCAB venue
- Gender and date of birth
- Date of injury
- Type of injury
- Part of body injured
- Five most recent case events
- Case status
- Official party list (including lien claimants if desired)

Access Past and Current Case Information

Inquiry By Social Security Number

The State of California EDEX system supports queries of the official database of workers' compensation cases by social security number (SSN) of the applicants.

All cases associated with the SSN provided will be identified and returned to the subscriber placing the inquiry. The subscriber will receive:

- All WCAB case numbers
- WCAB venue
- Gender and date of birth
- Date of injury
- Type of injury
- Part of body injured
- Five most recent case events
- Case status
- Official party list (including lien claimants if desired)
WCAB case events referred to above include 56 different significant case activities tracked by the WCAB. These events are recorded in the WCAB database by the WCAB staff as they occur. (e.g. declaration of readiness filed; order approving compromise and release issued; petition for reconsideration filed, etc.)

CompData application software displays the WCAB case information in a format permitting a view of each case individually or by report including details of all cases associated with a specific applicant.

Initial Inquiry by WCAB Case Number

An inquiry by WCAB case is filed with a specific WCAB case number. An inquiry by WCAB case number will return all of the information regarding that specific case number listed above. The response received from EDEX also provides you with the social security number associated with the WCAB case number queried.

Receive Electronic Notification of All Scheduled Hearings
Resident Inquiry

EDEX will provide the subscriber filing a Resident Inquiry with automatic electronic notification of all WCAB hearings the same day they are placed on calendar. The electronic notification will include the same information normally provided in the traditional paper hearing notice.
